Kid Gimbap Rolls

⏱️ 25 min · Korean · Lunch main

Nut-freeNo reheatingAsian staple⚠️ Contains sesame

Contains sesame as written. Sesame-free swaps:
  • Use a neutral oil (e.g. canola/rapeseed or sunflower) instead of sesame oil.
  • Use plain, unseasoned nori instead of oiled Korean gim.
Ready-made products like sauces and crackers may still contain sesame or traces of it, so check every label.

Ingredients

New ingredient?
  • Nori / gim (roasted seaweed): Thin dried seaweed sheets used to wrap rice. Japanese nori is plain; Korean gim is often brushed with oil and salt. Where to buy
  • Short-grain (sushi) rice: Slightly sticky rice that holds its shape, so it's ideal for onigiri and gimbap. Calrose rice works well too. Where to buy
  • Toasted sesame oil: A few drops add a nutty, toasty flavour. Sesame is a common allergen, so check your school's policy. Where to buy

Method

  1. Season rice with sesame oil and salt.
  2. Spread on gim, line fillings near the edge and roll firmly.
  3. Slice into coins with an oiled knife.
